And we haven’t finished with the war yet… Not for the first time in recent memory there’s controversy in Poland on a World War II issue. Two books on Polish-Jewish relations after the war have just been published, both by Polish-born historians living in the United States. Europe’s Roma often live on the margins of society, suffering a variety of problems from high unemployment to relatively low life expectancy. In the Czech Republic a new report highlights what seems to be a disturbing trend – the creation of Roma ghettos. The study, ordered by a Czech government ministry, shows that more and more Romanies in the Czech Republic are finding themselves literally living on the edge of society.
Over two dozen Czech neo-Nazis were arrested in Prague this week, after a protest outside the city’s Israeli Embassy. Most of them belonged to a group called National Resistance, who recently asked the Czech President to be allowed to join foreign armed forces to wage war on Israel. How strong is the neo-Nazi movement in the Czech Republic?
Well, Teachers at a school north of Gothenburg in Sweden decided in March to
fail pupils in Social studies for demonstrating nazi or racist views in the
classroom - which they argue "go against Sweden's Democratic values upheld
in the curriculum". Now, the controversial decision has been supported by
Sweden's National Agency for Education. Radio Sweden has the details.
